October 31 - Thoughts on the experience

This month, I would like to testify that I am grateful to God that he trusts me enough to give me the trials that he has given me along with everything else I have been given. I would also like to share a very personal experience along with my testimony. On Halloween evening, I had the elders from my ward (an Elder Manning and an Elder Fitzner) and a member from my ward named Brother Young come to my house and give me some spiritual food. That spiritual food included a discussion about how God often times things right when they need to happen and when we put trust in God, He puts trust in us. I was told that being given trust from God is a lot of responsibility and that He doesn't trust everyone with responsibilities because many squander what God gives them and so He doesn't want to give them more. God only gives responsibilities/experiences, etc to those who prove in humility that they can be trusted with them. I asked if that trust from God can include the trials we get and ...

October 30 - Results of bloodwork

I went to the lab and got my bloodwork for TSH levels on the 22nd of October and I got a call from Dr. Uys today about them. He said they finally got that result back from Calgary and there is nothing concerning, so I had a benign nodule with no signs of cancer and my TSH is in the normal range. All I will need, he said, is a repeat of bloodwork in 6 months and that can be taken care of by my GP.  I am blessed.

October 10, 2024 - Results of the surgery!

I met with Dr. Uys today and I received the results of the pathology that was taken when I had my thyroid and the tumor removed. Dr. Uys said it was just a big goiter, but there is still a pathologist in Calgary reviewing the case because there's some abnormal looking cells, not cancerous cells, but abnormal looking cells called metaplasia. Metaplasia means cells that look a little bit different than normal cells, but they don't look like cancer. Dr. Uys also told me what they took out during surgery - my thyroid, the goiter tumor, and on one side, they found one parathyroid and transplanted it on the other side, and found another one and left it as is. Two of the four were so low that they left alone.  All I am supposed to do now is have my blood drawn on the 22nd of October. I went to the mall afterwards and I had a big cry, deeply relieved that it was not cancer because I didn't want it. I saw how it beat the heck out of my biodad and I did not want it. .

April 15, 2024 - Results of the ultrasound

The results of the ultrasound came back. I saw them on Alberta Health's website before I went to the doctor, but the story is the same... They recommend a biopsy because it was a "concerning nodule in the RIGHT lobe classified as a TR4 and fine needle aspiration biopsy is recommended. The lump the patient is feeling is the nodule in the RIGHT lobe of the thyroid gland." I googled what a 'fine aspiration needle' is and it goes into your neck and takes cells. It is a day surgery procedure and it terrifies the hell out of me.

March 27, 2024 - Went to the doctor

The lump still hasn't disappeared, so I finally went to the Palliser Medical clinic after getting an appointment with the clinic's Nurse Practicioner. I went in and she felt the lump and my doctor, Dr. Olalere, also came in and felt the lump. Dr. Olalere ended up ordering an ultrasound. My anxiety began to climb. I ended up getting called for an ultrasound appointment on April 3, 2024 not long after that...

July 9, 2024 - My heart dropped...

Image
This morning, I was chilling around the house and I suddenly got a call from Palliser clinic and they asked if I could either come in that day or tomorrow to the office to discuss the results of my biopsy. My heart dropped and I ended up texting my visiting teacher for help and she agreed to take me over there.  I went over to the clinic around 2 p.m. and met with Dr. Olalere and also saw my results beforehand on My Alberta Health. Dr. Olalere told me that the atypical group of cells suggest the presence of popular thyroid carcinoma, and the remaining specimen will be submitted for thyro spec analysis. In other words, she said, they'll still want to do further analysis to give a more streamlined result, but for now, this is what they think is. She said the cells are abnormal, and they only see those abnormal cells when there is some form of carcinoma, and it suggests the presence of this papillary thyroid cancer. Dr. Olalere elected to send me to a surgeon and I agreed, my anxiety ...
